One teenage youth was found dead just days following being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message added: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The proceedings heard that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from school personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called the family's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they did not got that message.

Formal Finding

Lead coroner told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed while inquiries continued."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his intent."
